Kuehne+Nagel delivered a 22% revenue increase to $8.97 billion and a 53% surge in pre-tax earnings to $527 million in the third quarter of 2026. The logistics giant's performance was driven by robust demand for specialized logistics solutions supporting cloud infrastructure and semiconductor customers, while general cargo volumes also remained strong.

Cloud and Semiconductor Logistics Drive Growth

Demand for logistics solutions supporting cloud infrastructure and semiconductor customers drove the majority of growth. This strategic focus is showed by a long-term logistics deal with Amazon for data center construction and operation, from which Kuehne+Nagel aims to generate $1.2 billion in revenue. The company also inaugurated a new Tech Center in Chennai, India, to develop digital logistics solutions, with plans to hire 250 tech workers by early 2027.

Operational performance was strong regionally from Southeast Asia and China. The air cargo division was a standout, with key quarterly figures showing significant gains.

MetricQ3 2026 Performance
Air Cargo Revenue$2.88 billion (up 38% year-on-year)
Air Cargo EBITUp 84% year-on-year
Air Cargo Volume619,000 tons (up 10% year-on-year)
Air Cargo Gross ProfitUp 29% year-on-year

Ocean freight EBIT increased 55% after a decline in the first half, driven by market share gains in Asia outbound to the U.S. The company struck 37 new contracts in the quarter, primarily in Europe and the Middle East, and trucking profits increased 40% due to stable demand in North America and Europe.

Operational Excellence and Market Share Gains

Air cargo volume growth accelerated 7% quarter-over-quarter and 10% year-over-year, exceeding the overall market growth of 6%. Market share capture accounted for 60% to 70% of this volume outperformance. The growth was largely facilitated by dedicated freighter aircraft, including the establishment of a dedicated 'cool corridor' between Frankfurt and Atlanta using a Boeing 747-8 freighter operated by Atlas Air. Ocean freight volumes increased 5% year over year and 6% sequentially. The air and ocean forwarding business outperformed by capturing market share from competitors, particularly in Chinese retail marketplaces and hyperscalers.

Strategic Expansion and Future Outlook

Kuehne+Nagel expanded its specialized infrastructure with a new 37,700-square foot healthcare logistics facility at Frankfurt Airport in September. The company also implemented an AI cost-saving plan, achieving annualized savings of $242 million by year-end, faster than anticipated. Operating profit margin rose to 18.2% from 13.4% a year ago.

Chief executive Stefan Paul stated the company delivered strong third-quarter 2026 results. He noted that the long-term partnership with Amazon and AWS enables faster capitalization on future growth opportunities. Based on this performance, Kuehne+Nagel raised its full-year EBIT outlook to $1.88 billion at the midpoint. The company expects ocean yields to remain stable at raised levels through the first quarter of 2027.
