Mat Yeung’s Malaysian roast-meat restaurant closed after 10 days
Hong Kong actor Mat Yeung’s roast-meat restaurant Six Hub Roast House in Petaling Jaya was shut down by local authorities on Aug 24, just ten days after opening, over alleged licence and premises breaches. The restaurant plans to reopen on Aug 26 after rectification work.
Six Hub Roast House, a Hong Kong-style roast-meat eatery opened by 45-year-old TVB actor Mat Yeung, was ordered to cease operations in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, only ten days after its official launch.
Temporary Closure Ordered
The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) issued a closure notice on Aug 24, effective from 1pm. The notice cited alleged breaches involving the restaurant’s licence and the use of the premises. The notice was posted outside the restaurant and made clear that the business was temporarily shut.
Reasons for the Shutdown
According to the council’s notice, the restaurant had placed items in a back alley behind the building, a practice that was not permitted under local regulations. Yeung later explained that after the opening some items were stored in the back alley because “we had too many things after the opening.” The authorities demanded that these items be moved back to the warehouse.
The restaurant’s social-media post said it would close for two days to carry out rectification works and that it intended to resume operations on Wednesday, Aug 26. The post also apologized to customers, noting that part of the kitchen had occupied public space.
Owner’s Response
In an interview with Sing Tao Headline, Yeung said the authorities had found the back-alley storage and asked the restaurant to relocate the items. He added that the business should be able to resume the day after tomorrow, implying a reopening on Aug 26. Yeung’s comments were recorded by the local media outlet Channel News Asia.
Background on Yeung
Yeung, who trained with TVB’s artist training class in 1998, has appeared in dramas such as Be Home for Dinner, Master Of Play, Fist Fight and My Commissioned Lover. The Star reported that opening and running a traditional roast-meat restaurant has been one of the actor’s life aspirations.
The restaurant’s temporary closure highlights the strict enforcement of licensing and premises regulations in Petaling Jaya. The authorities’ decision to order a shutdown after only ten days of operation underscores the importance of compliance with local rules for new food-service businesses.
